THE OLDEST VINEYARD OF SOUTHAMERICA

“Tacama, the innovative tradition”

Pierre-Louis Teissedre, Chief Professor, University of Bordeaux, France

The first thing we wish to highlight is the careful selection of and the experimentation with the most diverse and quality clones of vitis vinífera over the past 90 years in the locality of Tacama. At present, we have developed a drip irrigation system in the field that allows us to engage in precision wine culture. Another advantage is the possibility of quickly transferring the grapes thanks to the location of the winery in the heart of our vineyard. Modern wine making equipment –such as presses, de-stemmers and others– is also essential in the production of our products, as well as the computerized control of the temperature during fermentation, maceration, conservation and throughout the entire process. Our wines are stored in climate controlled environments, and are aged in barrels made of French oak that rest in our wine cellar.

Viña Tacama has a highly qualified staff, the experience and knowledge of French agronomists who, for the past 90 years, reside in the property, as well as the advice of and permanent contact with distinguished professors of Bordeaux (Jean Ribéreau-Gayon, Émile Peynaud, Pascal Ribéreau-Gayon, Pierre-LouisTeissèdre).

Professor Jean Ribéreau-Gayon refers “I have directly confirmed that an important technological effort is being made in Tacama, and that the work methods and the material continue to be based on very safe scientific principles.”
